During Spring Break of the 2000-2001 school year our department (University of Oregon)took a field trip to Hawai'i using support from the Staples Memorial Fund. It was a great trip that combined gorgeous scenery, active volcanism, and blue fizzy drinks. It also prompted my interest in the HSDP core collected by Caltech. Eventually I will post preliminary research findings from my research on paleosols preserved in the core, but for now just a few pictures.

and eventually wins, forming soils.
